Oklahoma State Department of Health offering free flu shots
More tragic news concerning the flu in Oklahoma has come about. The Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) has reported the first pediatric death associated with this year's flu season. The child was between the age of 5 and 18.
This year's flu season has been breaking records and has been the worst in years. In Oklahoma alone, there have been 3,440 flu-associated hospitalizations and 153 deaths attributed to the flu.
The flu has hospitalized more than 1,800 Oklahomans over the age of 65 and more than 400 Oklahomans under the age of 18. These are the highest reported numbers since OSDH began tracking the flu.
Weeks still remain in the 2017-18 flu season, and the OSDH is now offering free flu shots at no cost at all of its county health department sites. For clinic times, contact your local county health department.
