Oklahoma Blood Institute needs your help today!
The Oklahoma Blood Institute (OBI) has been put into a tough situation due to the recent icy weather conditions in Oklahoma.
Because of the weather making travel difficult, only about half of the needed donors have been able to make it out over the past few days to donate blood.
"We're in a place right now where if we continue into this at a current rate, within about a day in a half we won't have a single unit to be able to ship to a hospital," Daren Coats, Vice-President of the Western Division Operations of OBI, said.
Because of this shortage, the OBI will be keeping its donation centers open longer this Friday and Saturday (2/23/18 and 2/24/18). The centers will be open until 6 p.m. on Friday and 4 p.m. on Saturday.
The donation center for Southwest Oklahoma is located in Lawton at 211 S.W. "A" Avenue. Their phone number is 580-353-6451.
Blood donation only takes about an hour and can save up to three lives.
